Consultant for WASH Knowledge Status Review

 

The Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) is a program funded by bilateral donors and administered by the World Bank, with a mission to help poor people gain sustained access to water supply and sanitation services. WSP operates in Africa, East Asia, Latin America, and South Asia. The WSP Tanzanian country office is based in Dar es Salaam.
WSP Tanzania seeks to recruit a Senior International Consultant for WASH Knowledge Status Review to support activities relating to the Scaling-up of Rural Water and Sanitation Service Deliveries in Tanzania.
The consultant will conduct a document review and assessment to support a series of national and decentralized WASH sector knowledge consultations in Tanzania. Specifically, the consultant will document the current status of WASH sector knowledge in Tanzania, including the existence and availability of knowledge in rural water and rural sanitation. The consultant will assess how knowledge is produced, customized, shared and used. The consultant will conclude on the major knowledge gaps in relation to identified sector bottlenecks, especially for poor and vulnerable people, and propose recommendations on how to improve the production, customization and connection of knowledge in the sector. The outcome of this review will support organizations working within the WASH sector access existing knowledge and support the sector to define and implement a research and learning agenda to address knowledge gaps.
The successful candidate will have advanced degree (PhD or Master’s Degree) in a relevant field, with minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or equivalent education-experience combination; At least 4 years’ experience in the field(s) of water, sanitation and hygiene; A knowledge of the Tanzanian WASH sector and development; Demonstrated ability to search and assess research literature; A very high level of English proficiency; knowledge of Swahili highly desirable; strong oral communications and analytical writing skills; Ability to work with many people with diverse interests and backgrounds; Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines; Ability to deal sensitively in multi-cultural environments and build effective working relations with clients and colleagues. Experience facilitating and documenting meetings.
