Man kills mother, surrenders to police

A 22-year-old man in Mt Elgon killed his mother over a Sh6 000 debt and later surrendered to police.
Daniel Karam of Kaptogoi village surrendered to Chepsikaai Police Station on Thursday after authorities began looking for him following the murder.
The fight reportedly began when Karam asked his 61-year-old mother Grace Mbiwa to refund some Sh6 000 she owed him.
“Daniel Karam had heard that [his] mother had sold coffee and he thought she had money. But his mother had not received the money [as] he thought. He had asked the mother to pay him or face consequences,” said witness Jacob Munyasia as reported by the Star.
The mother denied having any cash.
This, according to police, prompted the suspect to go to a drinking spree from where he returned at around 8pm and summoned her outside.
The unsuspecting mother didn't know that he was armed with a panga and ready for assault.
“He hacked his mother several times on the head and residents were alerted by her screams... Who would dare kill his own mother? It is so unfortunate this had to happen,” added Munyasia.
When police arrived at the scene, they rushed the woman to Bungoma District Hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body has been taken to the Bungoma District Hospital mortuar
