Kenyan pilot lands chopper on busy highway

There was confusion in Bondo Town in Siaya County after a pilot landed a commercial chopper on the busy Kisumu-Usenge Highway on Saturday morning.
Sections of online media reported that the pilot had lost direction making the surprise landing to make enquiries before taking off.
eDaily has, however, learnt that the pilot made a brief landing to meet his mother who was locked in a meeting near Pride Hotel, which is located a few meters from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University in Bondo Town.
Seemingly the pilot had no option of an airstrip or helipad for landing other than on the busy highway.
The pilot had flown Gem Member of Parliament (MP) Jakoyo Midiwo to his rural home Saturday morning before deciding to pull the surprise visit to his mother, who was not at her home at the time.
The pilot, who was a lone a passenger in the aircraft, hails from Bondo.
Vehicles which were on the highway at the time of the incident were forced to the roadside, with startled motorists taking pictures of the rare spectacle using their smartphones.
Members of the public, who were confused on what was going on, rushed to the scene not only to ascertain the cause of surprise landing but also have a glimpse of the copter.
