(a) Qualification and Experience
Holder of PhD and attained the rank of either a Professor/Associate Professor or a Senior Lecturer with
outstanding experience in administration, teaching and research. A holder of Masters degree may also be considered provided that such a person has demonstrated high leadership qualities and extensive experience in academic administration in an institution of higher learning.
(b) Tenure:
May hold the position for a period of between two (2) and five (5) years renewable only once on merit.
(c) Duties:
The key responsibility of the DVC (A) is to look after students from admission to graduation, the needs of academic staff, academic program development, and to promote research, publications and external linkages and extension services in the University. In particular, the DVC (Academics):
•Is responsible to the Vice Chancellor;
•Shall be the Chief Advisor and Assistant to the Vice Chancellor;
•Oversees academic planning, academic program review, and curriculum development;
•Maintains liaison with other campuses of the University system and with such external groups such as
Tanzania Commission for Universities, the Higher Education Students Loan Board, etc.
• Coordinates with the Tanzania Commission for Universities, for accreditation and other academic requirements;
•Supervises the Deans of Schools and Faculties and the Academic Directors of Library, Research etc, evaluating and approving their recommendations for faculty hiring, promotion; and tenure;
•Supervises budget preparation for the academic and academic-related programs, allocating and reallocating funds and resources to and from these programs;
•Provides overall leadership in creating and maintaining academic standards and policies;
•Any other duties as may be assigned by the Vice Chancellor.
(d) Salary
The appointed DVC (A) will be entitled with basic salary as per UoA scheme plus responsibility and utility
allowances, free house or house allowance, and medical support of up to 70% of treatment.
