Background
TPRI was established in the mid 1940’s when synthetic pesticides come into the market in East Africa and worldwide. Over years, TPRI worked under Colonial Government, East Africa Common Market Services Organization (EACSO) and East African Community (EAC) until 1977 when it was placed under the Vice President’s Office followed by its enactment by the Act No. 18 of 1977. The Institute is mandated to carry out pesticides research and disseminate findings on the management of pests, pesticides and biological diversity. The Institute also provides technical support services related to pesticides management and biological diversity in the agricultural sector for sustainable development. TPRI wished to call for applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill the following vacancies that are available at the Institute
General Function for Directors/Heads of Units
Advise the Director General on all strategic and non strategic issues related to the function of the respective Directorates/Units, budget preparations, plan and review work in respective Directorates/Units, ensure effective and efficient implementation of Directorate’s/Unit’s programmer’s provide professionals/technical guidance to staff and on job training to new staff under the Directorate’s/Unit’s, prepare performance report, carry out staff performance appraisals for all staff and perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the Director General from time to time
JOB TITLE: RESEARCH OFFICER II – PLANT VIROLOGIST (1 Post)
Qualifications
• M.Sc Crop Protection/M.Sc Agronomy Crop Protection Major, with research (Dissertation) work in the area of Plant Virology
• Work experience with plant viruses will be a an added advantage
• Have at least 3 years experience in related field after attaining Masters Degree
• Have published at least on scientific publication after attaining Masters Degree
Terms of Tenure
Contractual for an a Term four years once renewable, governed by the TPRI scheme of Service for the posts of Directors and Heads of units. Salary Scale will be determined by qualifications and relevant experience as per TPRI Scheme of Service. For other posts employment its on permanent and pensionable terms

• Responsibility allowances in line with the Scheme of Service for Researchers as per Treasury Registrar’s Circulars
• Utility allowance and Free Transport as per Treasury Registrar’s relevant Circulars
• Gratuity at the end of tenure according to TPRI Scheme of services for the contract period served successfully
