Community Forest Pemba is actively seeking six qualified applications to join the organisation’s team in Minyenyeni, Wete, Pemba. The organisation is actively working to help rural communities adapt to the negative effects of climate change through empowerment, sustainable livelihoods and the restoration of the natural environment. All positions will be on a 12-month term with the possibility of renewal depending upon performance.

JOB #1: Forestry Officer
Information:
Community Forests Pemba is actively seeking a Forestry Officer in order to assist the organization with tree-planting and forest management activities. In addition to tree planting and forest management activities, the Forestry Officer will be required to assist with agroforestry, spice production and water conservation activities.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree in forestry or a related field
  • Three years of qualified experience in forestry and community development
  • Strong skills as a communicator and trainer
Responsibilities:
  • Establish community tree nurseries
  • Provide extension training
  • Provide tree planting support to communities
  • Develop forest management plans for existing forests and plantations
  • Monitor and track growth and project progress
The successful candidate will have good written and oral communication skills and be team oriented. The forestry will also be expected to work with overseas staff so a degree of English proficiency will be considered a plus.
This position will be effective August 1st, 2015
JOB #2: Water Security Officer
Information:
Community Forests Pemba is actively seeking a Water Security Officer in order to assist the organization with rainwater harvesting activities. In addition to rainwater harvesting, the Water Security Officer will be responsible for water Catchment Conservation activities in collaboration with forestry, agroforestry and agriculture professionals.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree in a related field
  • Three years of qualified experience in Rainwater Harvesting and community development
  • Strong skills as a communicator and trainer
Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement rainwater systems
  • Use a variety of rainwater harvesting techniques include ferrocement
  • Implement water filtration systems
  • Develop and implement water catchment conservation activities in collaboration
  • Monitor and track project progress and water quality.
The successful candidate will have good written and oral communication skills and be team oriented. The Water Security Officer will also be expected to work with overseas staff so a degree of English proficiency will be considered a plus.

JOB #3: Renewable Energy Officer
Information:
Community Forests Pemba is actively seeking a Renewable Energy Officer in order to assist the organization with solar energy activities. In addition, the Renewable Energy Officer will be required to assist with charcoal substitute briquette and improved charcoal production activities.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree in a related field
  • Three years of qualified experience in renewable energy and community development
  • Strong skills as a communicator and trainer
Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement solar energy systems in remote communities
  • Train community members on system use
  • Provide improved fuel efficient cook stove training
  • Pilot improved charcoal production systems
  • Monitor and track project progress.
The successful candidate will have good written and oral communication skills and be team oriented. The Renewable Energy Officer will also be expected to work with overseas staff so a degree of English proficiency will be considered a plus.

JOB #4: Sustainable Building Officer
Information:
Community Forests Pemba is actively seeking a Sustainable Building Officer in order to assist the organization with Interlocking Compressed Stabilized Earth Block (ICSEB) activities. This role will be required to offer technical and livelihood training to rural communities in the use and commercialization of sustainable building technologies.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree in a related field
  • Three years of qualified experience in sustainable building and community development
  • Strong skills as a communicator and trainer
Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical Interlocking Compressed Stabilized Earth Block (ICSEB) training
  • Provide business and entrepreneurship training
  • Monitor and track growth and project progress
The successful candidate will have good written and oral communication skills and be team oriented. The Sustainable Building Officer will also be expected to work with overseas staff so a degree of English proficiency will be considered a plus.

JOB #5: Bookkeeper and Clerical Assistant
Information:
Community Forests Pemba is actively seeking a Bookkeeper and Clerical Assistant in order to assist the organization with bookkeeping and clerical duties. The Bookkeeper and Officer assistant will assist the Financial Officer in data entry, record keeping, expense tracking and database management.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma in accounting or a related field
  • Three years of qualified experience in accounting and clerical
  • Strong skills as a communicator and trainer
Responsibilities:
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable
  • Record and monitor records
  • Use Sage 50/Simply Accounting software
  • Report on quarterly operating budgets
  • Monitor and update field view database
The successful candidate will have good written and oral communication skills and be team oriented. The Bookkeeper and Clerical Assistant will also be expected to work with overseas staff so a degree of English proficiency will be considered a plus.

JOB #6: Driver
Information:
Community Forests Pemba is actively seeking a Driver in order to assist the organization.
Qualifications:
  • Driving certificate issued by qualified institution
  • Three years of qualified driving experience
  • Ability as a qualified mechanic
Responsibilities:
  • Drive technical field and management staff
  • Maintain organisation’s vehicles
  • Conduct mechanical repairs
  • Track distance traveled and fuel consumption
The successful candidate will have good written and oral communication skills and be team oriented. The driver will also be expected to work with overseas staff so a degree of English proficiency will be considered a plus.
