Deputy Executive Director for Innovative Girls’ Education Organization in Tanzania Sought
Secondary Education for Girls’ Advancement (SEGA) in Morogoro, Tanzania seeks an entrepreneurial, committed Deputy Executive Director, to support the continued development of The SEGA Girls School, a secondary residential school for girls in Morogoro, Tanzania. The SEGA Girls Secondary School, now in its 6th year, provides quality academic, life skills and business education to 190 vulnerable girls from Standard VII through Form IV, with the overall purpose of empowering disadvantaged girls to change their lives. SEGA’s vision is to develop a financially self-sufficient, model school for educating Tanzanian girls; emphasizing leadership, social responsibility, and environmental care among its students.
With a successful track record in Tanzania and a supportive network of donors and supporters within USA and around the world, our aim is to become financially self-sufficient over the next 10 years through running our own profitable businesses on the school’s campus and other income generating strategies that will also provide learning opportunities for our students. We are seeking a candidate for Deputy Executive Director, who will become the next Executive Director after a hand-over period, with the following experience and attributes for this challenging and fulfilling post:
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, education, organizational development, or relevant field, Master’s degree preferred
- A minimum of 5 years experience in management and leadership positions in Tanzania
- Excellent managerial, organizational development, team-building and leadership skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to interact with stakeholders of all nationalities and cultures

- Willingness to make a minimum commitment of 3 years (5 years preferred)
- Position is open to international or Tanzanian candidates with significant exposure to working with people from other cultures; 5+ years experience in Tanzania preferred
Position Responsibilities
- Builds a cohesive, effective team to plan and implement the school’s academic, leadership and business programs
- Oversees the development of new campus businesses to reach financial self-sufficiency goals, supervising business staff, ensuring smooth running of those businesses
- Takes a lead on fundraising and resources mobilization from sources within Tanzania; and participates in grant writing, along with partner organization in the US as needed
- Oversees the continued development of the school and its programs, supervising the Headmistress and ensuring smooth running of the school
- Effectively engages with an array of domestic and international institutional partners to fulfill mutual objectives
- Oversees construction of new buildings
- Develops a positive image with local community, donors, partners and other stakeholders
- Shares learning at national scale to influence education policy
- Responsible for budgeting, financial management, and ensuring use of funds as per plan, reporting regularly to donors
