VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: SENIOR RESEARCHER
Within delegated authority and under the general guidance of the Executive Director, the Senior Researcher is responsible for the preparation of operating and strategic plans, project and business plan, monitoring and evaluating activities and performances and conducting researches. He/she organizes and coordinates the collection, compilation, consolidation and analysis of data to conduct development research, to study projects and to prepare short and long plans of AIR. She/he also establishes and ensures better data management system and coordinates the proper and timely evaluation of operation and impact assessment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plans, coordinates and directs research activities;
  • Advises the Executive Director in research related activities;
  • Initiates project ideas, specialized studies, prepares proposals and plays an active role in the implementation;
  • Identifies potential remittance related problem areas of the continent in collaboration with Central Banks and other relevant offices;
  • Prepare pilot-test implementation strategy of study findings and recommendations with appropriate implementation manuals and procedures whenever necessary;
  • Monitors and follow-up the implementations of study findings and recommendations;
  • Periodically assesses the impact of the technical assistance and capacity building works on the remittances flows and management;
  • Manages, supervises, leads, guides, supports, monitors and evaluates the performance of employees working under his direct supervision;
  • Prepares and submit periodic activity and mission reports;
  • Works collaboratively with other colleagues to achieve organizational goals;
  • Performs related activities assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications and Work Experience Required
Education/Training
  • Candidates must hold Bachelor's University Degree in Economics or Finance related fields.
  • A Master's in the aforementioned fields is an added advantage.
Experience
  • Candidates must have at least 7 years of relevant working experience in Remittances/Migration or Financial Inclusion related development and research works, of which at least 3 years should be at senior management level.
Other Technical Skills
  • Working knowledge of applied research, policy analysis, programmes/project management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Management experience, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to organize and motivate others and to work in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Excellent drafting and reporting skills;
  • Good communication and negotiating skills;
  • Good planning and organizational skills. Firm belief in teamwork and gender equality;
  • Knowledge on computer aided research tools;
  • Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages.
  • Knowledge of several other working language(s) would be an added advantage.
Language Requirement
  • Proficiency in one of the AU working languages (English, French, Arabic and Portuguese) is a must.
  • Knowledge of second or all of the other working languages would be an added advantage
Tenure of Appointment
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of One Year (1), of which the first three (3) month will be considered as a probationary period.

Remuneration
The salary attached to the position is a fixed monthly lump sum of US$ 7,039.79 (P3 Step5) inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff, and US$ 5,884.45 inclusive of all allowances for locally recruited staff.
