NETWORK ASSISTANT FOR AGRIPROFOCUS PROJECT

SNV Netherlands Development Organisation seeks to fill the following position of a Network Assistant for Agriprofocus Project
Based in Arusha, Tanzania

Background
SNV Tanzania is a member of AgriProFocus and the host of AgriProFocus network in Tanzania. AgriProFocus Tanzania is part of the global AgriProFocus network founded in the Netherlands in 2005. AgriProFocus Tanzania was co-created in October 2013 as a network aiming to promote farmer entrepreneurship in Tanzania. As a network we believe that primary producers are key to local economic growth, sustainable agri-food systems, and food security for all. AgriProFocus convenes stakeholders from the private and public sector and civil society that are committed to work with entrepreneurial farmers. We work through sharing knowledge and co-creating solutions in order to improve the support system for farmer entrepreneurship.
Project Summary
AgriProFocus Tanzania members are public organisations and private companies that seek cooperation and synergy by mobilising their professionals, expertise and resources around joint interests in promoting farmer entrepreneurship. The members jointly generate and share knowledge and co-create solutions which promote farmers entrepreneurships.
Together with SNV, AgriProFocus members in Tanzania have committed both financial and human resources to implement the network activities in 2015. The members include, HIVOS, TRIAS, FERT, MDF, TAHA, MVIWATA, QFP Ltd, AGRITERRA, Farmers organizations, inputs suppliers, research institution and government institutions.
The Host Organisation for the AgriProFocus Tanzania is SNV Tanzania and as a host SNV provides technical, human and administrative support to AgriProFocus Tanzania to enable it to achieve its strategic objectives. AgriProFocus Tanzania also receives regular technical and professional support from the AgriProFocus in the Netherlands through its Network Facilitator based in Arnhem office. The Network Facilitator, the Country Network Coordinator and the Business and Partnership Advisor based in Tanzania forms the country coordination team.
In its new Strategic Plan 2013-2016, AgriProFocus had defined its four key results areas for joint action and learning as:

Overview of the Position
Purpose:
The purpose of this job advert is to recruit and contract an AgriProFocus network assistant under SNV Tanzania terms and conditions of long term associate advisors to work hand in hand with the coordination team in the key results area; network development and coordination as well as providing support to the other results areas as provided below.
The AgriProFocus Assistant will be supervised by the Country Coordinator in her/his roles and will be responsible as follows:
Key Responsibilities
Network development and coordination:
  • Operating and ensure the Online Platform (http://agriprofocus.com/tanzania and related pages) provides members with up to date news, information, events and all issues related to AgriProFocus and Agri Business.
  • Facilitating and moderating the online platform in line with procedures and guidelines;
  • Taking responsibility for developing good PR material (briefs, factsheets, articles in the media, editing and formatting materials from members etc) for the AgriProFocus Tanzania
  • Communication with the members on Network activities and supporting the working teams in organising APF related events,
  • Proactive supporting the business and partnerships brokering, network activities such as the network day, discussion events, B2B meetings and cocktails, platforms for debate and learning etc.
  • Take a lead in the promotion of the network events with the media and other platforms,
  • Ensure that reports of events held are well drafted and posted on the online platform for publicity.
  • In collaboration with the coordination team, provide inputs for writing of progress reports on the work of the network and to communicate to different stakeholders accordingly.
Innovation communities
  • Provide practical and hands-on assistance to the leaders of the innovation communities, such as calling meetings, take meetings minutes reporting, follow-up
Monitoring and Evaluation:
  • Assist in collecting M&E information and data with regard to the results of Agri-Business linkages and networking events and activities.
  • Support in developing relevant mobile surveys and questionnaires to be used at the events and upload the results into the system for analysis.
Contracting:
  • The AgriProFocus Network assistant will be part of the APF coordination team and the position is on the full time basis. The position will be based in the host organization SNV office space in Arusha. Initially the contract duration will be up to 31st December 2015 and could be renewed based on a successful performance evaluation and availability of funding for the continuation of activities.
Deliverables of the assignment:
  • Work plan and results achieved under key results involved.
  • Monthly reports overview of activities.
  • Final process and progress report,
  • Support the compilation of the AgriProFocus Tanzania mid-term and annual reports.

Requirements
  • At least 5 years working experience in Business Development Services (BDS) or Agri Business Development.
  • Good working experience with online platforms and media tools,
  • Proven working experience in organising events and workshops,
  • Excellent communication skills in English & Swahili languages, Coordination & Facilitation Skills,
  • Ability to work independently and in a frequently changing environment,
  • Having a network attitude and willing to motivate and take along others.
Contract Type: National Contract
Contract Duration: 1st May 2015 to December 2015 with possibility of extension.
Salary Scale: As provided by SNV salary scales.
Desired Start Date: 1st May 2015.
