OUPEA is seeking to recruit high calibre, results-oriented and experienced professionals for the following positions:
1. Science Publisher
Summary of the position
This is a senior position responsible for conceptualizing, planning and management of a strong, market oriented Science list that achieve market approval and sales to meet the strategic objectives of OUPEA.
The Science Publisher will provide leadership to a team of highly skilled Editors in growing the Science list in all levels of education from ECDE to tertiary levels.
Key responsibilities
The Science Publisher will provide leadership in developing a comprehensive, high quality Science educational teaching and learning materials to appropriate markets.
While leading the team in planning and execution of the Science publishing programme, the Science Publisher will monitor educational and market trends and steer activities to expand adoptions of all new titles and revise existing ones to suit current trends.
The Science Publisher will build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the education sector and authors; providing guidance during the writing and development of publications that offer innovative solutions to learners and teachers and which will grow a profitable business for OUPEA.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
The position requires a relevant Bachelor’s degree preferably in Education with a major in either Chemistry, Biology or Physics, combined with at least four years relevant publishing experience.
The ideal candidate should have at least two years in management experience, budget monitoring and control, and project planning and management.
Teaching or lecturing experience, with a proven track record of consistent high performance, will be an added advantage.
In addition, the individual must demonstrate a thorough understanding and knowledge of the dynamics of the education systems and markets in East Africa.
2. Senior Kiswahili Editor
Summary of the position
This is a position responsible for developing, planning and project managing a strong list of market-oriented Kiswahili titles that achieves market approval and sales to meet the strategic objectives of OUPEA.
The Senior Kiswahili Editor will be tasked with mentoring other editors, project managing an allocated number of titles that will help grow the Kiswahili list from ECDE through Secondary school levels
Key responsibilities
The Senior Kiswahili Editor will provide leadership to a team of editors in developing comprehensive, high quality educational teaching materials for both learners and teachers to appropriate markets.
The Senior Kiswahili Editor will conduct market research and incorporate findings into new and existing products.
The Senior Editor will build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the education sector and authors; providing guidance during the development of publications that offer innovative solutions to learners and teachers and which will grow a profitable business for OUPEA.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
The position requires a relevant Bachelor’s degree preferably in Education with a major in Kiswahili combined with at least three years relevant publishing experience.
The ideal candidate should have at least two years experience in project planning and management of own titles from conceptualization to pre-press.
Teaching experience, with a proven track record of consistent high performance, will be an added advantage.
In addition, the individual must demonstrate a thorough understanding and knowledge of the dynamics of the Education systems and markets in East Africa.
3. Kiswahili Editor
Summary of the position
This is a position responsible for developing, planning and project managing a strong list of market-oriented Kiswahili titles that achieves market approval and sales to meet the strategic objectives of OUPEA.
The Kiswahili Editor will be tasked with project managing an allocated number of titles that will help grow the Kiswahili list from ECDE through Secondary school levels.
Key responsibilities
The Kiswahili Editor will copy edit to expected standards a number of allocated educational teaching materials for both learners and teachers to appropriate markets.
The Kiswahili Editor will also conduct market research and incorporate findings into new and existing products.
The Editor will provide guidance to authors during the development of publications, and will liaise closely with the Senior Editor and Publisher in developing titles that will offer solutions to both learners and teachers.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
The position requires a relevant Bachelor’s degree in Publishing with a bias to Kiswahili combined with at least two years relevant publishing experience.
Prior experience in managing own titles from conceptualization to pre-press and a proven track record of consistent high performance, will be an added advantage.
4. Designer
Summary of the position
This is a position responsible for developing and implementing innovative designs for digital and print publications, website and promotional materials in accordance with the publishing and marketing plans within set budgets and schedules.
Key responsibilities
The Designer will interpret design briefs accurately while ensuring originality and distinctiveness.
The Designer will ensure that designs are in line with current developments and trends in graphic design.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
The position requires a diploma in design and website design, combined with at least 1 year’s design experience using Macintosh computers.
The ideal candidate should be experienced in branding and page layout, be able to use electronic publishing software, must be flexible and able to work to tight deadlines, have good organizational skills.
The candidate should be able to work independently and in a group.
