ASSISTANT MEDICAL OFFICER LINDI AND MTWARA

Assistant Medical Officer, Duty station: a) Lindi, b) Mtwara
A.Responsibilities
The assistant medical officer is responsible for
Coordinating Maternal Health Care improvement part of the programme
implement daily operational aspects of all issues related to maternal health part of
IMCH
Assist the programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to the regional and district health authorities
Assist the initiative to provide advisory services to the management of all hospitals, health centers (public and private) plus 80 selected dispensaries
maintain a good flow of communication and information between the region, and
GIZ/TGPSH

B. Tasks

Management and coordination
The assistant medical officer
coordinates and assists in preparing and conducting maternal health Operation
Plan and activities and carries out other activities required for implementing the component in coordination with new born team and regional coordinator
Is responsible for building the maternal health improvement team of the programme
Assists to identify gaps and enhance capacity of the maternal health care team to become skilled and effective trainers, supervisors, mentors and coaches of maternal health care providers according to MoHSW standards IN
Supports facility maternal health care service providers to adapt and practice standard and good quality day to day running of maternal health care services,particular the clinical and capacity development elements
Helps the maternal care service providers to develop skills in planning, organizing, implementation supervision, evaluation and reporting on maternal health care services
Assures continuation of stable quality of care and treatment for maternal patients in targeted facilities (e.g. strengthen internal/external communication with facility management/departments)
Provides evidence based advice and guidance to the management (RHMT, CHMT,
Health facility management) on integration and sustainability of the approach
Becomes a resource to maternal health care providers regarding aspects of
maternal clinical practice and care
Advices and supports strengthening of effective data management according to MoHSW standards
Supports, through mentoring /coaching, maternal health team and maternal health care service providers to enhance their professional development
Assists in the smooth operationalization of maternal health care quality improvement working hand in hand with the RHMT, Maternal health Care team, New born care Team and respective health facility management
Provides support to the Regional coordinator to plan schedules
Undertakes development and monitoring, and audit of processes relating to maternal care clinical practice and care in line with MoHSW guidelines and tools (e.g. the MNCH monitoring card)
Regular communication and coordination with the new born team for the purpose of synergizing activities from both sides

3.Communication and networking
The assistant medical officer
Develops and maintains contact with all important stakeholders in the region
Ensures knowledge management: collects information on processes and shares information with relevant authorities
Collaborates with the facility management for maternal health issue resolutions and actions to facilitate quality work flow processes utilizing a proactive approach Collaoorates with different health facility departments (pharmacy, laboratory, registration) to resolve issues and improve 'Work flow processes throughout the maternal health department
Promotes an atmosphere .of open communication that facilitates maternal health team members input into decision-making, resolution of conflicts, and collegiality among all maternal health team members
Facilitates team and staff participation in relevant meetings and useful events
Collects information and presents progress to regional coordinator
Links with other Development Partners supporting maternal health care services in
Lind/Mtwara regions through formal and informal channels
Other projects and duties as directed by the maternal health department managers
Communication and coordination with the Newborn technical team.
Advanced Diploma in Clinical Medicine (Assistant Medical Officer training) from a known Tanzanian training institution
At least 3 years' of proving maternal health services. Good practical experience on Maternal Health care
Skills on Basic and Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and New born care Trainer on BEmONC/CEmONC is an advantage
Knowledge on ICT (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office, excel) strong managerial and organisational competence willingness to travel (within the region) regularly very good knowledge of English and Kiswahili
willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed -corresponding measures are agreed with management
