Managing Director, Global Programs & Field Engagement
The Global Programs & Field Engagement Department is comprised of three units: Field Visit Program, Proposal & Report Development and UNICEF Engagement. The overall mission of the department is to improve efficiency and effectiveness in identifying and tracking UNICEF funding priorities, conducting program research and developing fundraising tools and resources, and engaging UNICEF senior leadership, technical experts and field colleagues in our efforts to achieve the goals set out in the US Fund strategic plan. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of the Program and Community Engagement Division, the Managing Director contributes to the mission and fulfillment of divisional goals and assisting in organizational matters related to US Fund staff education on UNICEF programs, strategies and operations, UNICEF relations, program coherence, and fundraising and grassroots initiatives.
Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):
Provide oversight, direction and strategic vision for all three units
Ensure that staff have the necessary skills, knowledge and access to UNICEF to provide a fully integrated service to fundraising, advocacy, marketing and communications staff
Strengthen high-level engagement of UNICEF headquarters and field offices to more efficiently capitalize on UNICEF’s assets and achieve the goals set out in the strategic plan
Co-manage with Human Resources a UNICEF secondment policies and procedures in order to better leverage professional growth opportunities for USF staff and fill temporary staffing gaps at UNICEF
Cultivate, manage and grow relationships with key UNICEF program, policy and field colleagues
Ensure USF staff are knowledgeable about UNICEF and the latest priorities for children and provide opportunities for ongoing professional development and exposure to UNICEF
Review and approve multi-million dollar proposals and reports, briefs, and concept notes prepared for high-level donors and partners
Manage and direct the UNICEF program related components of the USF Annual Meeting and oversee UNICEF staff attendance and participation in the USF flagship events such as Snowflake Ball and Women In Philanthropy
Staff the Program Committee of the National Board and manage the expansion of the committee to support the Winning Hearts and Minds domestic initiative
Represent UNICEF Global Programs and UNICEF relations on the USF Management Council, as needed
Ensure that fundraising materials such as grant applications, proposals, reports, letters of intent, briefs, presentations and other communications for private partners, major gift donors and other potential funding sources are of the highest quality and delivered on time
Provide integral support to internal program processes and initiatives that build and strengthen program coherence
Receive and vet new partnership proposals from organizations and/or individuals and advise on new USF and UNICEF initiatives and possible synergies
Represent the USF and speak to UNICEF program priorities and strategies in donor and partner meetings
Identify and leverage opportunities to bring UNICEF field programs to key stakeholders and key stakeholders to the field as part of the Field Visit Program
Provide guidance and oversight on various educational opportunities for staff, including the ‘UNICEF Training’
Support cross-organizational initiatives that enhance fundraising and engagement on various domestic initiatives leading to a greater domestic imprint
Direct strategic planning and budgeting process for the department and manage quarterly tracking of key success indicators
Prioritize and refine information for the Senior Vice President’s decision making
Assist with special projects for the division, as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field and a minimum of 10 - 12 years related experience
Strong knowledge of international development and the United Nations system
Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
Proven track record leading teams; Ability to manage and provide oversight, guidance and clear direction to a team of writers, researchers and program staff
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve stated goals
Ability to adhere to tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously with independence; ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Must possess a strong work ethic, and be a motivated, enthusiastic team player who embraces the mission of USF
Must demonstrate USF Core Values: Trust, Respect, Accountability, Innovation, Teamwork, and Service
Must possess current and valid US Work Authorization and be eligible to work for any US employer without sponsorship.
