INFORMMATION RESOURCE SPECIALIST/ LIBRARIAN  POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMU College) is a constituent College of Tumaini University Makumira, owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania. The College is based within KCMC Hospital grounds in Moshi, Tanzania.

The College trains health professionals for various University awards in clinical and health sciences It currently wishes to recruit a competent and committed human resource to fill the following vacant position:

Information Resource Specialist/ Librarian

Overall Duties:
The prospective candidate will:
Serve as the Information Resource Specialist / Librarian for the KCMU College Faculty of Medicine.
Work closely with students and faculty to facilitate integrating the best available evidence into classroom teaching, academic activities and clinical care.
Train faculty on best practices for finding and using information for medical education, delivering an information literacy curriculum to all students in the College,
Offer research consultations to faculty and students to assist in developing research, proposals and conducting literature reviews.
Work with the KCMC Hospital main Library and library consortia in Tanzania to investigate and evaluate print and electronic resources, such as online textbooks, for potential purchase. '

Specific Responsibilities:
To work with Medical Doctors under the Faculty of Medicine to identify high quality materials available for teaching, learning, and research.
To design, deliver, and evaluate an information literacy curriculum to all students in the College.
To schedule research consultations individually with faculty, students, and staff to assist them in finding and using information needed for academic and research projects. .
To manage a budget, make purchasing decisions, and handle the acquisition and processing of electronic and print materials to support medical education at the College.
To work with the Learning Management System Specialist to establish and maintain electronic and print course reserves for students.
To work with the ICT Unit to establish and maintain a web presence for the Library.
To work with existing network of African health information librarians to stay current on best practices.
To investigate possibilities and create plans for creating a digital library of KCMU College publications and theses.
To assist in troubleshooting issues with end users and work with appropriate ICT members to resolve local problems with resources.
To coordinate, maintain and produce reports for the College's Library and Resource Center.

Qualifications:
Preferred: Master's degree in Librarianship; Library, Archives and Documentation; Library and Information Studies; Library Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

Required: Combination of Bachelors' degree in one of the following fields and direct experience in library or instructional technology setting: Information or Library Science, Business Administration (Information Systems), Education, Information Systems or directly related field.

Experience:
One year experience working in a library or in instructional technology.
Experience working with HTML and web authoring a plus.

Other Qualities/Skills:
Strong, proactive interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to respond to internal 'needs as well as external
Strong working knowledge of Internet/Intranet, Internet and database 'searching, Adobe Acrobat Pro and MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Access).
Strong troubleshooting, customer service, communication, detail orientation, analytical organizational and evaluation skills i.e. ability to multi-task, prlorltize, and self-manage projects in a fast paced and dynamic work environment.
Stronq team-based problem solving Skills.
This is a new role, which requires a proactive self-starter to build relationships and, create opportunities.

 Remuneration and Terms
Competitive and attractive package of salary and fringe benefits will be offered to the successful candidate.
Two year contract with a probation period of 12 months.
