Faculty of epidemiology and population health
Established in 1972, the MRC Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG) is a group of approximately 35 statisticians and epidemiologists based in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at LSHTM and at research centres in Africa. The group has an extensive research portfolio of epidemiological research in resource-poor settings covering a range of diseases of major public health importance (including HIV, TB, malaria, neglected tropical diseases and global mental health).  We have an extensive network of collaborators, including the MRC Units in Uganda and The Gambia, the Aurum Institute for Health Research (Johannesburg, South Africa), the Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (Mwanza, Tanzania), and the Wellcome Trust Bloomsbury Centre for Global Health (London UK).
We are looking for an experienced epidemiologist with expertise in malaria immunology and advanced statistical methods to analyse large epidemiological datasets, including cross-sectional and longitudinal cohort data, from varying malaria transmission settings. Specific emphasis will be on the development of innovative techniques to analyses serological responses (including seroprevalence and antibody responses) and relate these to the effects of specific interventions and other relevant factors that may be related to malaria transmission. The post holder will apply appropriate methods to analyse and interpret data from a number of studies from varying epidemiological and ecological settings, and advise on appropriate study design and data collection. They will work closely with the Department of Immunology and Infection, and with epidemiological researchers, mathematical modellers and field staff from partner institutions. Regular field visits will be required. In addition, the post-holder will be expected to develop their own research interests in these or closely related areas.
The appointment is part time at 0.5 FTE. It is available from 1st May up to 31st December 2015 with the possibility of extension depending on funding.
