Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences is inviting applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians to be considered for employment to fill the following vacant posts:-

1. SENIOR LECTURER – 3 POSTS

a) Required Qualification

PhD/MMed/MDent in the relevant areas of specialty.

 GPA of 3.8 or higher at under graduate level from a recognized University.

 At least 4 points since attainment of PhD/MMed/MDent.

 Minimum of 3 first authored papers obtained within the past three years.

 Post PhD/ MMed/MDent working experience of not less than 3 years in similar position.

b) Area of Specialization

Anatomy, Biochemistry, Clinical Pharmacology, Haematology and Blood Transfusion, Emergency Medicine, Otorhinolaryngology, Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Behavioral Sciences, Community Health, Environmental and Occupational Helalth Sciences, Development Studies, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Parasitology and Medical Entomology, Pharmaceutics, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Nursing Management, Clinical Nursing, Orthodontics Paedodontics and Community Dentistry, Biological and pre clinical studies, Natural Medicine, Botany Agronomy and Plant breeding, Natural Products development and formulation

c) Duties and Responsibilities

Carry out lectures, conduct tutorials, seminars and practical for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

 Play leadership role at the level of Department, School and Institute/ Directorate.

 Mentor junior staff in relevant matters

 Facilitate and direct curriculum development and implementation.

Facilitate and Direct faculty development activities and manage various university activities.

 Assess the teaching skills of junior staff, grade them and provide feedback for improvement.

 Develop systems to solve specific problems.

 Provide close guidance and mentorship to students.

 Undertake research, publishing/ disseminate results.

 Carry out consultancy and community services.

 Write teaching manuals.

 Supervise field students, undergraduate special projects and Masters PhD thesis/dissertation.

 Attend/organize workshops, conferences and symposia.

 Assess student’s coursework and academic progress.

 Coordinate and direct examination invigilation for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

 Set and mark assignments tests examinations and dissertations and submit results on time.

 Promote excellence in all service programmes of the department.

 Provide clinical services for in-patients and out-patients, and community services where applicable.

 Supervise grand ward rounds and advice on appropriate medication.

 Supervise case presentation and participate in training other staff.

 Carry out audit and evaluation of medical practice in line with institutional and national standards framework.

 Develop medical guides, protocols, quality assurance standards and manual of specific aspects of medical practice.

 Perform any other duty that may be assigned by the relevant authorities.

2. LECTURER - 33 POSTS.

a) Required Qualification

Appropriate PhD or MMed/MDent.

 A minimum GPA of 3.8 in the Undergraduate Training from recognized University.

b) Area of specialization

Anatomy, Biochemistry, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Oncology, Psychiatry and Mental Health, Haematology and Blood Transfussion, Otorhinolaryngology. Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Physiology, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Environmental and Occupational Helalth Sciences, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Parasitology and Medical Entomology, Pharmaceutics, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Nursing Management, Clinical Nursing, Orthodontics Paedodontics and Community Dentistry, Restorative Dentistry, Oral and Maxlofacial Surgery, Biological and pre clinical studies, Natural Medicine, Botany Agronomy and Plant breeding, Natural Products development and formulation and Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Development studies.

c) Duties and Responsibilities

Develops curriculum and participate in its implementation.

 Carries out lectures, conducts tutorials, seminars and practical for undergraduate students.

 Conducts seminars for Postgraduate students.

 Assess undergraduate students coursework and academic progress.

 Invigilates students during examinations.

 Sets and marks assignments, tests and examinations and submit results on time.

 Prepares manuals and case studies for training.

 Participates in multi disciplinary research projects.

 Provides close supervision and guidance to undergraduate students.

 Participates in developing and managing various university activities.

 Participates in writing Research Grants.

 Participates in research, and publishing/disseminate of results.

 Participates in consultancy and community services.

 Attends/organizes workshops, conferences and symposia.

 Participates in Continuing Education and Professional (CEP) and faculty development activities to improve teaching skills including facilitation.

 Provides specialized clinical and Community services where applicable for in-patients and out-patients .

 Supervises case presentation and participate in training other staff.

 Performs any other duties that may be assigned by competent authority

3. ASSISTANT LECTURER – 15 POSTS

a) Required Qualifications

 Appropriate Masters Degree with a GPA of atleast 4.0 and an average of B+ grade/ or equivalent in the area of specialization.

 GPA of 3.8 in the first degree from a recognized reputable University.

b) Area of Specialization.

Anatomy, Biochemistry, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Oncology, Behavioral Sciences, Community Health, Environmental and Occupational Helalth Sciences, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Parasitology and Medical Entomology, Pharmaceutics, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Nursing Management, Clinical Nursing, Orthodontics Paedodontics and Community Dentistry, Biological and pre clinical studies, Natural Medicine, Botany Agronomy and Plant breeding, Natural Products development and formulation, Otorhinolaryngology, Paediatrics and Child Health, Psychiatry and Mental Health.

c) Duties and Responsibilities.

Assists in conducting lectures, prepare case studies, and assist in tutorials / seminars to undergraduate students and other continuing education courses.

 Works in co-operation with senior faculty members on specific projects such as research and consultancy.

 Understudies senior faculty to supervise special projects, conduct, publish and disseminate research results.

 Participates in training, research and consultancy.

 Marks and grades of examination and tests.

 Supervises students during seminars, examination, tests, practical, field work and tutorials.

 Participates in writing of teaching manuals.

 Participates in curriculum development.

 Invigilates students during examinations.

 Attends workshops, conferences and symposia.

 Attends faculty development trainings.

 Promotes excellence in all service programs of the department.

 Performs any other duties that may be assigned by a competent authority.

N.B.
Assistant Lecturer is a training post, candidate shall be required to join PhD Training within two years after their employment.

4. TUTORIAL ASSISTANT – 8 POSTS.

a) Required Qualification

First Degree in the appropriate field.

 G.P.A of 3.8 in the first degree.

b) Area of Specialization

c) Duties and Responsibilities

 Understudying senior faculty by attending Lectures, seminars, tutorials and practicals where applicable.

 Studies and acquire skills and knowledge in training, research and consultancy.

 Assists in research and consultancy projects.

 Develops training proposals conducted by Senior Faculty.

 Participates in curriculum development.

 Assists on other service programs of the department.

 Performs any other duties that may be assigned by a competent authority

N.B.
Position of Tutorial Assistant is a training post. Successful candidates shall be required to join Postgraduate Training immediately after employment.

5. SENIOR PLANNING OFFICER I - 1 POST

a) Required Qualification

Holder of the University Master Degree in any of the following:- Economics, Educational Planning, Engineering Management, Statistics, Project Management , Strategic Planning.

b) Experience
: Five (5) years working experience in similar post.

c) Duties and responsibilities

Formulates and co-ordinates corporate plans and strategies based upon priorities for resource allocation to various functional programmes.

 Reviews and evaluates reports on plan performance.

 Co-ordinates preparation of recurrent and capital development budgets and prepares mid-term cost adjustments.

 Participates in educational and administrative efficiency studies.

 Designs and carries-out studies on performance, efficiency and capacities and recommends solutions to problems

 Co-ordinates the preparation of project write-ups

 Identifies problems related to goals and policies and makes proposals for review

 Advisers on suitable investment opportunities for the University and sets necessary criteria and guidelines

 Prepares estimates for capital development

 Liaises with Bursar’s Office in preparing the recurrent budget.

 Compiles project profiles including sources of funding, custodian of agreements with donors and monitors reports.

 Assists the Principal Planning Officer in managing the General Planning sub-system of the Directorate of Planning and Investment.

 Performs any other duties as assigned by ones reporting officer.

6. SENIOR ENGINEER II – 2 POSTS.

a) Required Qualification

Holder of BSc. Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering must have been registered as Professional Engineer by relevant Board.

b) Experience:
Four (4) years working experience in similar post or post 6 years experience after first degree.

c) Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for maintenance of all equipment, building and other infrastructure.

 Plans the procurement of necessary spares/equipments

 Advises on the planning and procurement of necessary spares/equipment.

 Develops and modifies structural building.

 Develops and modifies technical tasks as required

 Undertake maintenance of all equipment, building and other infrastructure.

 Participate in tender evaluations related to construction works .

 Carriers out independently, specified routine technical tasks, which require technical knowledge and skills.

 Implements specified maintenance plans of equipments and buildings, and other infrastructures.

 Participates in tender evaluations related to construction works.

 Prepares the budget on specific tasks/projects for implementation.

 Plans maintenance schedules for equipments and building Making pre-acceptance checks of new equipment for verifying specification.

 Provides professional advice and guidance to University equipment users.

 Participates in the exercise of formulation of policies relating to maintenance of University equipments.

 Participates in installation of machinery and equipment and maintenance.

 Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.

7. SENIOR SYSTEM ANALYST II – 1 POST

a) Required Qualification

Holder of Bachelor of Science in Computer Sciences or Information System, Telecommunication.

b) Experience:
Four (4) years working experience in similar post or post six years experience after first degree.

c) Duties and Responsibilities

Analyses, designs and programmes large size applications.

 Do programming for large size applications

 Prepares ICT Trainning materials

 Solves complez hardware/software problems.

 Designing website

 Oversees System Management and Network Management

 Manages a team of programmers working in large projects.

 Installs server operating Systems.

 Manages networks.

 Solves complex hardware/software problems.

 Advice Management on policies regarding Information Technology

 Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.

8. SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR II – 2 POSTS

a) Required Qualifications

Holder of BSC in Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Electronics or any other relevant field.

b) Duties and Responsibilities

Advises/assists computer users.

 Assists in managing server operating Systems.

 Assists in managing and maintaining networks.

 Manages server operating Systems including web-servers, database servers, and mail servers.

 Manages, coordinates and maintains assigned network segment.

 Administers/coordinates and up-dates School/Institute web-sites (Seb-master).

 Trains computer laboratory assistants/junior Systems administrators.

 Supervises computer laboratory assistants/junior Systems administrators.

 Assists students and other users of ICT resources in the School/Institute.

 Liaises with the ICT directorate and escalates incidents/problems and to University information Systems administrators like FIS, ARIS, LIBIS, HRMIS etc.

 Oversees service agreements including maintenance contracts and service level agreements (SLA) of suppliers.

 Advises School/Institute management on ICT issues, procedures, plans and budgets.

 Advises the School/institute on ICT security matters such as virus threats and appropriate anti viruses.

 Performs any other duties assigned by one’s supervisor.

9. HEALTH LABORATORY SCIENTIFIC OFFICER GRADE I – 4 POSTS.

a) Required Qualification

Holder of Bachelor degree/Advanced Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Advanced Diploma from a recognized Institution. Must have been registered as a Graduate Health Laboratory Scientific Officer by competent board/authority

b)
Experience: Three (3) years working experience in similar post

c) Duties and Responsibilities

Organizes practical for undergraduate students.

 Participates in consultancy projects under close supervision of senior staff.

 Assists in consultancy, research and development in health field.

 Assists Academic staff in their research and development activities.

 Plans and supervises maintenance of laboratory/ workshop equipments and facilities.

 Prepares manuscripts, laboratory practical and other relevant needs.

 Instructs undergraduate and postgraduate students during practical.

 Develops and modifies student’s experiments and experimental rigns in consultation with

academic members of staff.

 Supervises and orients Technicians and Artisans in their duties.

 Conducts on the job training for Technicians.

Guides technicians in their daily activities

 Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.

10. HEALTH LABORATORY TECHNICIAN I – 2 POSTS.

a) Required Qualification

Holder of Ordinary Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technician (DMLT), Cty & Guilds I & II (CGLT), DDLT (Diploma in Dental Laboratory Technology) or any other relevant Diploma from a recognized institution.

b) Experience

Working experience of at least three (3) years in relevant field

c) Duties and Responsibilities

Carries out, independently, specified routine technical tasks, which require a higher degree of technical knowledge and skills.

 Implements specified maintenance plans for laboratory facilities.

 Implements specified technical plans and designs connected with research, students’ practical and consultancy work.

 Assists in students projects and practical research and consultancy work under close supervision of laboratory engineers/scientists and academic staff

 Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.

11. PUBLIC RELATION OFFICER I – 1 POST

a) Required Qualifications

Holder of University Bachelor Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations, or any degree in social Sciences with a major in communication.

b) Working experience
of at least three (3) years in relevant field

c) Duties and Responsibilities

Assists in the routine public relations activities such as the compiling features for the University Newsletter

 carrying out of photographic assignments and handling of advertisements.

 Reports public comments and concerns about the University to one’s superiors.

 Assists in the liaising with mass media on press matters.

 Assists in organising official functions, tours and protocol.

 Assists in marketing of the University products.

 Organises Alumni events.

 Assists in manning exhibitions stand (e.g. Trade Fairs, Open day exhibitions).

 Assists in facilitating conferences, seminars, ceremonies, etc.

 Assists in the production of mass media programmes.

 Maintaining photographic records.

 Performs any other duties assigned from time to time by one’s reporting Officer

12. HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER II- 1 POST

a) Required Qualifications

Holder of a University Degree in Public Administration, Management, Sociology, Human Resource Management or Law plus Internship or completion of Law School.

b) Duties and Responsibilities

Collects, analyses, tabulates and maintains workforce records and statistics.

 Oversees the day to day smooth running of the Registry and Typing pool.

 Prepared and manages Staff Performance Appraisal Forms.

 Assist in dealing with general disciplinary matters for junior staff.

 Supervises office attendants, Secretaries and registry workforce.

 Assist in dealing with personnel services as may be assigned by the respective Head of Department eg compilation of personal particulars for new employees.

 Allocates Human Resources, and communicates conditions of service to staff.

 Assists in collecting, analyzing and presenting manpower statistics.

 Assists in conducting periodic surveys to determine the prospective manpower demands and supply situation with respect to situations requiring the largest investment of time and money.

 Assist in dealing with staff welfare matters such as sport and games, canteen, burial services and any other welfare matters required by members of staff.

 Assists in conducting staff performance appraisal.

 Assists in the provision of administrative services.

 Performs any other duties assigned from time to time by one’s reporting Officer.
